Survey Findings Guide £20m Investment Plan as Town Centre Transformation Gathers Pace

More than 70 Eastbourne businesses have shared their vision for the town’s future in the first comprehensive business survey conducted by the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board – and their voices are already shaping real action.

Business owners expressed deep pride in Eastbourne while highlighting opportunities to strengthen the town centre, improve connectivity, and build a more resilient year-round economy. The survey, supported by the Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce, received feedback from businesses across the Borough, painting a picture of a business community ready to adapt and grow.

“These results highlight both the resilience and ambition of our local business community,” said Richard Garland, Chair of the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board and local businessman. “People want to see a clean, safe and welcoming town and seafront, a year-round visitor economy and accessible employment that works for everyone.”

What Businesses Told Us

Respondents identified key priorities including enhanced town centre facilities, more promotion of year-round tourism, and improved transport links. While rising costs and changing visitor patterns present daily challenges – particularly for retail and hospitality businesses – there’s clear optimism among digital and professional firms about Eastbourne’s potential. Bosses are also calling for more investment in skills development and training for young people to help the town’s economy evolve and thrive.

From Listening to Action

The Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board is already putting this feedback to work. The findings have directly informed a new Economic Development Strategy for Eastbourne, launching soon, which will outline practical actions to support local business growth, connect residents with accessible training and opportunities, and drive community wealth-building initiatives that keep investment in the town.

This survey comes at a pivotal moment for Eastbourne. Significant regeneration work is currently underway in the town centre, and while short-term disruption is inevitable, these capital projects represent a major vote of confidence in Eastbourne’s future. The Neighbourhood Board is working to ensure this investment works alongside grassroots support for local businesses.

“We’re already taking steps to turn insight into impact,” added Richard. “This feedback strengthens our ability to work alongside the investment already transforming Eastbourne. Together with partners, we can create a fairer, greener and more prosperous town for all.”
